What To Do In Abu Dhabi On Holiday

Visiting Abu Dhabi On Holiday

When people visit the United Arab Emirates (UAE), they normally go to Dubai. But there is also so much to see and do in Abu Dhabi on holiday too. Although many people think that Dubai is the capital of the UAE, it is actually Abu Dhabi. Abu Dhabi is probably the most important city in the UAE, politically, geographically and historically. So a visit is a must!

But like all cities, you need to know what you can do in Abu Dhabi. This is where we are going to help you. In this blog post, you will find some great ideas for things to do. The UAE is hot all year round, but the best time to visit is November to March. It is usually cooler in the evenings then. And as we always suggest, keep up to date with travel rules and restrictions.

Shopping

There are so many different things to buy in Abu Dhabi, but here are the best things to look for and bring home as souvenirs of your trip.

  • Spices – When you go to Abu Dhabi on holiday, you will try a lot of different foods, so it would be good to take some Arabic spices home. Middle Eastern food has an exotic flavour to it, and that is all down to the mixture of spices in the food. The most popular spice is known as Baharat and it is a blend of black pepper, cloves, cinnamon and cumin.
  • Gold – We all know that gold never loses its value and often goes up in value. When you go to Abu Dhabi on holiday, always look for gold jewellery. You can get really good-quality gold at a very affordable price.
  • Persian rugs – what better as a constant reminder of your holiday, than a rug for your home? These rugs are made from genuine and high-quality materials and you can get one in a unique design that will suit your home. Persian rugs and carpets are actually artistic, genuine, and of high quality. Curated with royal, traditional, and unique designs, these rugs and carpets are made from a heavy textile, perfect for home use. Get your family and relatives a rug or two, as these never go out of style.
  • Camel milk chocolate – You can buy this in most shops that sell food, especially supermarkets. Because this chocolate is made from camel’s milk, it is lower in fat. This is because camels produce low-fat milk. They are rich in flavour and make awesome gifts for people.

Eating Out Whilst In Abu Dhabi On Holiday

There is a wide variety of Abu Dhabi restaurants to help you try different food. There are restaurants that cater for all nationalities.

But if you are looking for some Arabic food, Then you need to make a visit to Essence. This restaurant is famous for the live cooking stations, so you can see your food being cooked. As well as the range of sushi and salads with an Arabian influence.

If you like to stick to good old British pub grub, then you need to eat at Hamilton’s Gastropub. It can be found at Saadiyat resort and although it is based on a British pub, it is more contemporary with long communal tables, where you get to meet new people as you eat. It opens at lunchtime and you can buy most foods that you would get from a pub menu in England. Sports games are live streamed into the pub and there is a cocktail happy hour from 4-7pm. They also have on going promotions, where you can eat at a discount, if you spent too much money whilst shopping.

Take A Desert Safari

A guided desert safari is really easy to book online before you go or when you are there. It doesn’t involve just driving through the desert. There is so much more to it like riding camels, sand boarding and a dune bash. Finish the day with a belly dance show and a BBQ dinner. Booking a guided tour saves you from having to sort out all of the activities yourself.

The tour usually lasts about 6 hours from the afternoon to the evening and you will be picked up from your hotel or a shopping mall. You will be paying around £60 each for this experience.

Drive On An F1 Track

The Abu Dhabi race track was built in 2009 to host the F1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. People from all over the world come to visit the race track that winds around the beautiful Yas Marina. You can do anything from drag racing to kart racing. Or if you are really looking for a thrill seeking adventure, race in an Aston Martin GT4 at 200km/h!
