Frugal And Free Family Fun Ideas
Frugal And Free Family Fun Ideas
Family fun shouldn’t have to come with a price tag. After all, as the old saying goes, the best things in life are free, and when it comes to the best things in life, fun with your family is right at the top of the list! If you are looking for frugal and free family fun ideas that you and your family can enjoy together without breaking the bank, then look no further!
Garden Camping
Do you and your family enjoy camping, but not the cost of site rentals, long car trips, and expensive camping gear? Why not camp out right in your very own back garden? Sure, it’s not quite the same, but the experience can be just as enjoyable! Get the kids involved in the camping chores for a real experience.
The only real expense would be a tent, and if you buy one in the offseason, you can usually get a great deal. A fire pit is something else that can be bought in the offseason for a low price if you don’t already have one in your backyard.
If you have a hammock in the garden, spend an evening lying on it with the kids and watching the stars. You might even find a satellite or a shooting star. Look for an app to download on your phone, and it will help you name the stars.
Making your own is another option. If you are opting to make your own, the easy-to-follow instructions video guides at YouTube.com. Everything else that you will need for this fun activity, including sleeping bags or blankets, pillows, and food, are all things that you already have at home, making your garden camping experience fun and frugal!

Picnicking
Another frugal activity would be taking your entire crew on a family picnic. All you will need for this activity is a picnic blanket and basket, or a cooler, all of which you probably already have at home, and of course, picnic food. Make your picnic lunch with groceries you already have on hand to save on the cost, and just pick up a few other snack foods, including potato chips, cookies and soda.
Next, look for an ideal picnic location. The beach or park make great locations, as well as other local places with nice scenery. The only costs involved in this fun activity is the cost of gas for travel, which will be pretty minimal if visiting local sites, and a little for snacks, making this another great fun and frugal activity!
Snow Days
This fun and frugal activity would take place during the Winter season, or any time of the year if you live in a place that has snow year-round. All you need for this fun activity are sledges, winter clothes, and of course, plenty of snow. Head out to a great hill for a day of fun sledging, or just head out to the back yard for snowman building, snow angels, and a snowball fight! Fun in the snow is a totally free activity if it takes place at home, and a very frugal one if it takes place away from home!
A Day At The Beach
Once again, these fun family activities need nothing more than what Mother Nature gives us- sun, sand and water! Heading out for a lazy, and totally fun day at the beach is another frugal family activity. All you will need to take along are beach blankets, towels, and some snacks, all of which you already have. One last thing to bring along- a camera, because you will want to capture the fun from this day to remember for years to come!

Outdoor Sports
This frugal idea is not only fun but also promotes a healthy and fit family. All you will need is a little sports equipment for your game of choice such as a football and nets or pylons, a volleyball and net, tennis rackets and balls, or hockey sticks, nets and a puck.
Some towns and cities have sports areas such as tennis and volleyball courts, baseball and football fields, or basketball courts, already set up and available for public use, often free of charge. Take full advantage of them and spend the day having fun and being fit while spending little to absolutely nothing!
Having fun with your family doesn’t have to cost a fortune. Check your local paper for upcoming, cost-effective or free events that you could attend, and think of ways in which you can do the things you enjoy most at less cost, and last, but not least, try out all of these activities discussed- all of which are sure to provide tons of fun, and save you money!
