Should You Put A TV In The Kid’s Bedroom?

The Kid’s Bedroom

The kid’s bedroom is their safe place. It is their private space and as they get older, they will spend more and more time there. So it makes sense for you to make it as relaxing and comfortable as possible for them. That might even be to put a TV in the kid’s bedroom. But we all decide to bring our kids up differently and some people will agree with you putting a TV in the kid’s room. Whilst others will tell you that you shouldn’t do it. But at the end of the day, it is your child and I am here to help you decide whether or not to put a TV in the kid’s bedroom. There are some pros as well as some cons – so let’s get started.

The Pros Of Putting A TV In The Kid’s Bedroom

To start with, putting a TV in the kid’s bedroom will win you some parent points! I know it’s not a competition, but let’s all agree, winning parent points makes for an easier life. It also helps that they can watch their own programmers in their room, leaving the TV in the lounge for you. There will be no more arguing about who is in charge of the TV remote.

The older kids get and they get consoles, so it is a good idea to pop a TV in their room to enable them to play comfortably. Again freeing up the lounge TV for you to binge-watch your favourite programmes. Just make sure you speak to them about playing the console at reasonable times and set any parental controls that you can.

TVs come in all kinds of different looks nowadays. For older children, you can get frame TVs so that when they are not using the TV, it looks like a picture frame on the wall. For the people using DVDS still, you can buy a TV with a DVD slot on the side. You no longer need a huge DVD box to connect to the TV. TVs are easy to attach to the wall safely and securely. You can even get a TV that pops up from the end of your bed.

When they are having a bad day, they can go to their room and sulk, whilst watching TV. They can also use the TV to relax after school or during a stressful time. Kids are struggling with life more than ever, and having their own space to go to when they want to relax is important for their health and well-being.

The Cons

Of course with all of the pros, there are going to be some cons when you put a TV in the kid’s room. But from a personal point of view, no amount of cons could take away from the enjoyment my child gets from having a TV in her room.

You need to monitor how long they are on TV, especially if they have it on way past their bedtime! They might also put it on in the early hours of the morning. It is harder to monitor their screen time when they are in their bedroom. but to be honest, if you ask them to turn the TV off, they will only switch to watching it on another device.

You will have less family time together. But as your child grows up, they are going to spend less time with you anyway. As kids get older, they want their own space. Make the most of the time you have with your kids before they don’t want to do things as a family anymore. Kids grow up and start to enjoy their own time together as we all do.

Facts if you put a TV in a kid’s bedroom

What Would You Do?

We allow my daughter to watch TV in her room, but we do not allow her to have the Xbox in her room. This way we can still monitor her online presence there. She has access to Netflix, Disney Plus and other streaming services but with the child locks on them to prevent her from watching anything that she isn’t allowed to watch.

It really is down to you whether you put a TV in the kid’s room, but to me, the positives outweigh the negatives.
