How To Be Less Afraid
Everyone is afraid and it has only gotten worse since Covid. No matter how confident you are in yourself and your surroundings. You always wake up at 2 or 3 am worrying about things that you are worried or scared of. There are a few things that can help you learn how to be less afraid of things that might happen in your life.
Firstly, you will never be less afraid until you start to face your demons or monsters. Then you will realise that they are not as scary as you thought. Sometimes we manifest things in our minds and the anxiety grows until we fear what is not even there.
As we get older, we need to step out into the real world and take away our stabilisers and carry on with life without looking back. We need to confront the fear and gain confidence. Although research from Development Academy revealed that 57% of people say they’ve naturally become more assertive with age, this can take practice. You won’t suddenly wake up on a Monday, full of bravery and be less afraid.

Starting To Be Less Afraid In The Real World
Bravery and confidence take practice, so if it doesn’t work out to start with, don’t worry and don’t give up. There are ways you can start to be less afraid in the real world and really pull your big girl pants up.
- Say hello to 5 people that you don’t know. It might be passing them in the street or it might be chatting whilst you are in a shop. I promise you will feel good about it and you will help someone else feel good too.
- Make eye contact with people as you talk to them. You will feel more confident as you talk.
- Pay a compliment to someone, this is a real feel good feeling for both of you. If it is someone that you do not know, then you will feel brave for speaking to someone new too.
- Wear something that makes you feel confident and brave. Even if it is completely different from what other people wear. So what if you stand out from the crowd? You are who you are.
- Phone someone up instead of texting or messaging them. Sometimes texts are hard to read, and come across the wrong way.
- Accept an invitation to a party or get together. Covid has made us all timid little things and we are all scared of going out. Be brave and be less afraid, go and enjoy yourself.
- Share your opinion, even if others disagree with you. Because the world will be a boring place if we all had the same opinion. If people disagree, don’t let is scare you into being quiet.
- Hold your head up high, no more walking whilst looking at the ground. Holding your head up means you look confident and you make eye contact with people. People will also smile at you and make you feel good.

Gaining Confidence As You Become More Brave
As I said earlier, it is not going to happen over night, and you might find more ways to maker yourself feel braver. But as you feel braver, you will also start to gain more confidence. If you still worry about going out and the whole ideas scares the heck out of you. Then it might be a good idea to speak to a doctor because there might be more to it.
As your confidence grows, you will be happier. You will smile more and you will be ready to take on the world.
