If you are anything like me sometimes you know that your home needs updating. But, you just do not have the time or cash available to redecorate completely. Fortunately, there are ways to quickly freshen up the look of a room, without having to spend a lot of time or money doing it. Below are a few suggestions.
Renew your skirting boards
If your skirting boards are looking a bit worse for wear, simply replace them. These days, it is really easy to do yourself. You do not have to go to the expense of calling in a carpenter. This skirting board website sells pre-primed versions, which makes things even easier.
Freshen up the walls
It will not take you long to freshen up your walls. There are lots of approaches you can take to doing this.
Painting is a lot easier than wallpapering. Although, if plain walls with wall hangings or photos is not a look you like you could always use wall stickers instead. They are not expensive and are extremely easy to apply.
Be more organised
This is one that I really need to listen to my own advice, as I work from home. I have space in my room for my office, but you really need to get yourself a modern office desk and keep it organised and tidy. This will help you to work more efficiently and you won't feel so cluttered. Working at an efficient, stylish desk will also encourage you to put in those hours at work and so many desks these days come with organised cable management and built-in power sources so everything is at your disposal for working.
Update the soft furnishings
Freshening up your linen and soft furnishings can also work wonders. You can take two approaches to this. The easiest way to do is to buy something new. But, don’t dismiss the idea of dyeing items that you already own or making something from scratch.
Hang a mirror
Adding a mirror to a room can make a surprising difference. It will capture the natural light and reflect it back making everything look brighter. You will also find that the room will feel bigger
Improve the lighting
On a similar note, consider upgrading your lighting. In most cases it is as simple as installing brighter bulbs or buying a couple of table lamps to create a better decorative effect and light up any dark spot in the room.
Upgrade your flooring
Nothing brings a room down faster than scruffy flooring. If you have carpets, try steam cleaning them. You will be surprised by how much of a difference this can make, even if your carpets are quite old. If that does not work consider buying some rugs to cover up the worst of the marks.
Alternatively, you can swap your carpet for vinyl or laminate flooring. Both are not very expensive and are surprisingly easy to lay.
Rearrange the furniture
De-cluttering a room or simply re-arranging the furniture is something few people think to do. Yet, it does make a surprising difference.
Give it a deep clean
If you have literally no money to spend, do not underestimate how much difference deep cleaning will make to a room. Getting rid of marks and scuff marks will make things look a whole lot better. Take the chance to have a good throw out too. An untidy room never looks at its best. There are some excellent guides available on the web that you can use to make sure that you stay organised and do not miss anything.
