Meet The Blogger Behind The Blog - Less-Refined Mind

As part of our series of introduction posts about bloggers, we have Kate telling us about her blog as part of our Meet The Blogger series, please read about her blog and follow her

What is your blog called?
The Less-Refined Mind

How long have you been blogging?

About 18 months.
What is your blog niche?
Family and lifestyle.

Why do you blog?

I love writing and I don’t want to work for anyone else ever again! Haha. (Erm,
that’s actually the truth though…)

What made you start blogging?

The job I was in when I fell pregnant treated me appallingly badly and I was desperate to find a way of earning some money. I actually started the blog to bring traffic to my freelance business, but soon decided to focus my attentions on the blog instead.

How long did you have your blog before you started to tell people that you had it?
I think I was sharing my posts immediately.

Who is your most famous Twitter follower?
Nadia Sawalha.

Buffer or Hootsuite?
I use Buffer – when I remember!

What is your best blogging achievement?
I was shortlisted in the BiBs this year which was amazing. I was gutted not be make the finals, but I was up against some amazing candidates. Next year maybe! I also made top 500 in Tots last month which was a fantastic feeling!

Have you ever had a fail with a blog post like not noticing a typo?
All the time! It goes with the territory, but I don’t think there’s been anything too cringey.

Have you ever sent the wrong email to a PR, or misread it and sent the wrong reply?
I don’t think so - although I did recently suggest housing a giveaway… Oops. That’ll teach me to send emails from my phone without proofreading!

Where can the readers find you?

I’m on twitter, facebook, Instagram, pinterest and stumbleupon.

Where's the weirdest place you have blogged from?
Laying next to my daughter in the dark, typing on my phone.

Have you ever met any celebrities through your blog?
Nadia Sawalha! I was fortunate enough to be part of a campaign she was ambassador for, which involved going to afternoon tea at a posh hotel in London! Brilliant experience, which I’ve written about on the blog.

Where do you see your blog in 1 years time?

I would hope to be more successful with more offers of work (of course!) and perhaps an established linky. Perhaps also to have overcome my cake addiction and talk about cake a bit less often? I’m working on it; maybe that’s more reasonable to have as part of the next question…

Where do you see your blog in 10 years time?Naturally I’d like to be top 10 in Tots and one of the most successful parenting blogs! Oh, and I hope to have won that coveted award by then too! But realistically I just plan to keep doing my thing and I hoping people keep liking it. I’d like to continue building a community and perhaps have a couple of books out too – I’m working on an ebook as we speak type, which I hope to release very soon! I also love the idea of having more time to work on my photography skills.

What is the favourite blog post that you have ever written?Gosh, that’s a tough question. I have several! My most popular ever was Yes, I Know My Daughter
Needs a Sibling; closely followed by New Mum? You’re Basically a Jedi. And a personal favourite
because it’s written about my little girl is A Letter to My Teenage Daughter. I’m also proud of
Breastfeeding: The Myths vs The Magic which inspired me to write the ebook I mentioned.
