Raising the Rings
How long have you been blogging?
I started jotting stuff down on Wordpress in November 2013, but didn’t really start doing anything properly until January 2015 when I decided I’d quite like people to read my stuff!
What is your blog niche?
I don’t know if I’d say I had one really. I’m kind of a statistic in the ‘mummy blogger’ world, but I’m basically all encompassing. There is no niche, no formality, no uniform or strict content on my blog, it totally depends on what I’d like to talk about on that day. Mix that in with some reviews and other cool content and I guess that’s my niche!
Why do you blog?
I blog because I love it, pure and simple. It’s an outlet for stress, but I also do social media management and freelance writing as a job so it’s kind of a passion. On the other hand, it’s a bit of a love and hate relationship sometimes!
What made you start blogging?
After the birth of my son in 2013 I decided I wanted to document the life of any and all of my children, their growing up and how we grow and mature as a family. I wanted them to have something they can read through and think wow, this is pretty cool. I don’t have many pictures of me from when I was really little, and certainly not much writing about what we did as a family, so it’s lovely to have some little stories on there for them.
How long did you have your blog before you started to tell people that you had it?
I just let it grow really naturally. I didn’t go out of my way to tell people it was there, I was quite happy for it be organic and just let it do its thing. I did share posts from my personal Facebook page and it’s just kind of grown on its own.
What is the funniest Google search people have used to find your blog?
I haven’t had anything odd, weird or worrying actually. I haven’t quite made it yet.
Who is your most famous Twitter follower?
I don’t have one! But if I could choose one it’d probably be Tom Hiddleston, because… you know.. yummy!
Buffer or Hootsuite?
Eek, neither! I really need to start using these, it’s just catching up!
What is your best blogging achievement?
Nothing too great, but I was nominated in four categories for the MADS in 2015!
Have you ever had a fail with a blog post like not noticing a typo?
All the time! I still do it now. I’ll often get a blogging buddy tell me I’ve made a typo or something doesn’t sound right! My other half likes to tell me when I’ve done it too - men! They love to be right.
Have you ever sent the wrong email to a PR, or misread it and sent the wrong reply?
Yep, I even did it yesterday. Wrong PR name despite having attended a session at the weekend about getting the PR’s name right. Needless to say I’ve not had an email back yet.
Where can the readers find you?
I’m all over the place! Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest, but mostly Twitter. Just search ‘Raising the Rings’ and you’ll find me. (Feel free to add links in here if you want to lovely - www.facebook.com/raisingtherings, www.twitter.com/raisingtherings, www.pinterest.com/raisingtherings,www.instagram.com/raisingtherings)
Where's the weirdest place you have blogged from?
I don’t have a weird place, but the best place is Val Thorens when we were skiing. It’s the highest skiing resort in Europe so that was pretty cool.
Have you ever met any celebrities through your blog?
I met Carol Smillie at the weekend as she was at a blogging event I was at, and I’ve also briefly met Imogen Thomas.
Where do you see your blog in 1 years time?
I’d really love to make this our main income but I’ve still got a long way to go. The plan is to turn this into part of my portfolio so that I can continue with it part time, and then the rest of my time do it for other people.
Where do you see your blog in 10 years time?
I definitely see myself with a new name. I don’t think Raising the Rings is going to stand the test of time so I’d really love to rebrand to show that it’s all encompassing.
What is the favourite blog post that you have ever written?
Definitely the one about Backstabbing Bloggers. I know it’s a bit of a rubbish topic but I think it’s so important to be friendly and helpful within this community. http://raisingtherings.com/backstabbing-bloggers/
