Design Uncovered Open Weekend With London Transport Museum

Tilly is a real city girl and tomorrow we have been lucky enough to have been invited to the Design Uncovered Open Weekend. This has been put on by London Transport Museum and will be at the Acton Depot. This is normally closed to the public, but they will be opening the doors this weekend for a very exciting look at the history of London transport and you will be able to view discovered objects relating to Edward Johnston and the very beginnings of the world-renowned eponymous Johnston font a version of which, has been used across the network and publicity materials since 1916. Known as ‘London’s handwriting’, it is seen by millions of passengers on transport signage and branding every day.
You can get a chance to also look at the old uniforms, vintage buses and trains as well as classic underground signs.

Now Tilly does like to use different methods of transport when she is in London, so it will be great for her to see some older forms of transport too. She is a whizz on the underground and is going to be so at home with this little trip.

Entry to the Museum Depot in Acton is from 11am until 5pm with last entry at 4pm. On Saturday 26 September only, guests will also be able to take a free shuttle bus to the nearby Siemens Heathrow Express Depot, where they can learn more about modern train design, taking a walk under a stationary train ready for maintenance.
To buy tickets to the Design Uncovered Open Weekend, visit or call 020 7565 7298 / 020 7565 7299

Tickets cost £10 (conc. £8). Young people under the age of 17 go free. Under 12s must be accompanied by an adult. After this weekend, the next open  weekend at the Acton Depot will be on 16 and 17 April 2016, so if your a train enthusiast or you have a child with an interest, I would make the most of this weekends lovely weather and take a trip to the depot for an informative afternoon.

A brand new ‘ice-cream taxi cab’ will also be parked up at the depot serving ice creams and lollies to visitors.
