Meningitis symptoms

A very close friend of mine lost her daughter to meningitus and as a general reminder to parents, i wanted to use my blog today to offer advice on symptoms and what to look for.

Meningitis and septicaemia can kill in hours - know the symptoms

The first symptoms are usually
Limb pain,
pale skin,
cold hands and feet often appear earlier than the rash
neck stiffness,
dislike of bright lights and confusion.

Other signs in babies:
Tense or bulging soft spot on their head
Refusing to feed
Irritable when picked up, with a high pitched or moaning cry
A stiff body with jerky movements, or else floppy and lifeless
Fever is often absent in babies less than three months of age

if your worried about someone having meningitis, always go with your first instinct and seek medical help straight away. The rash may not always appear but if it does you can do the tumbler test. The tumbler test is a test that you use to run the glass over the rash and if it doesn't disappear there is a chance its meningitis and you need to get help asap

Meningitus symptoms can be similar to cold or flu symptoms and if in any doubt dial 999
